Biography
Ulgar Shinestone was born within the Crag of the Gorgath Mountains in the year 123 BCE, roughly twenty-five years following the drow invasion of Urbor Dun, the dwarven ancestral home. At the age of forty, Ulgar Shinestone and his companions within the dwarven clans forged an alliance with a common goal of unifying their people and finding a new home for their people.
Ulgar and his warriors were able to fight their way into what would be known as Frosthammer and used strategic cave-ins to trap their enemies and bring peace to their home. During the conflict Ulgar’s friend and war buddy lost his life while defending their people, his name was Ronar Frosthammer.
Ulgar was elected High Thane of their new home and named the subterranean cavern the Dwarven Halls of Frosthammer, honoring his fallen friend. He began the Stone Council of Thanes from the Clans of Frosthammer and began a new chapter for his people.
In 9 BCE he met Vandar Rowan, Argyle Greyhem, and Raenor Cortlabar through a mutual friend and ally, Atla of Hornhome, an Osirian Blood Druid. Initially Ulgar detested Vandar Rowan after hearing of the atrocities he had committed during his time as a General of Validus, but after Vandar’s continuous atonement and his love for the children he cared for, began to call him a friend.
Vandar and Argyle forged an alliance with the dwarves and they agreed to help create a fortress in the mountains as an outpost for Arthur Greyhem’s Silver Army. They agreed that they would both defend each other from Validian and attacks from the Drow and this stronghold was named Eldrethen.
After meeting with Arthur Greyhem, Ulgar rallied his people against the Validian Empire during the Great War.
Ten years after the Defeat of Validus, Ulgar attempted to return to Urbor Dun in attempt to challenge the Drow Queen for the right to their ancestral home. Ulgar Shinestone was defeated and killed in battle and his celestium axe, Silverspark, was lost to the Stone Labyrinth below the Gorgath Mountains.
In dwarven lore passed down through the Fourth Age of Tenamyr it is said that a dwarf from a faraway land, a dwarf without a home, will return to Frosthammer to unify the clans bringing forward the lost axe of Ulgar Shinestone, Silverspark. A descendant of Ulgar, Mikden, brings Bruger Ironhelm to the Dwarven Halls of Frosthammer in 1008 BCE during the Second Great War wielding the fiery axe. Many dwarves believe that Bruger is the reborn soul of Ulgar and the prophesized warrior said to unite the clans.
Personality
Ulgar was known to be one of the strongest warriors in all of Frosthammer and let everyone know. He was said to be highly boastful and braggerty and a big drinker. It is said that he did not possess the capacity to turn down a challenge and some scholars believe this is what led to his demise at the hands of the Drow Queen Hanu.
