Horizon’s End was created in 2013 by two friends, Brian Swahn and Matt Pappalardo, incorporated in 2013, while living on the coast of the peaceful salt marshes of Long Island, New York. Following our passion for videogames and the tabletop experience we spent many years playing Dungeons and Dragons and crafting the World of Tenamyr with our best friends, cleverly coined ‘the Original Companions’. During the Gamemaster’s tenure in college, Matt started to craft the story of our world in the form of our beloved JRPG genre, to which Brian immediately found his passion in producing. The Great Gaias took Matt and Brian seven long years to complete, being the sole developers of the project, and brought together a team of wonderful artists and composers to help craft our flagship project and revealed a fiery passion to bring our world to others.
Following the development of The Great Gaias, Horizon’s End began production on a new title with a subgenre they conceived, ‘Western Fusion RPG’. In quarter one of 2023, Horizon’s End released Gjallarhorn, bridging the design and story elements of the east with the open-world choice and consequence systems of the west. Utilizing the d20 system as a baseline, we embarked on a unique project with a turn-based battle system, job points, unlockable classes and a story that shapes itself with the actions of the player. Working on Gjallarhorn and its d20 inspired systems since 2018 the team would find a rekindled love for their tabletop roots and have now decided to finish what we began nearly two decades ago, create our campaign for all to enjoy, the Codex Eternal: Campaign Setting.
Initially beginning as a homebrew for the Original Companions, the world of Tenamyr and the Codex Eternal captivated us for countless hours while playing Dungeons and Dragons. The stories we developed during our tabletop sessions were used as the basis to breathe life into The Great Gaias and Gjallarhorn. Horizon’s End now aims to bring this to players around the world in hopes to further their storytelling and allow others to experience the magic of this unique land and its many denizens.
Horizon’s End continues to produce mature content for the modern gamer and it is our great hope that our collection finds you well, and remember, where the horizon ends, the journey begins!
